Recently I found a useful article in Kompas.com, which is related to my older post about Turmeric as alternative medicine. Since it is in Bahasa, I try translate it here as good as I can (please feel free to make correction if you find something wrong or you have better words):

“The British scientiest is conducting a research the benefit of various extract with basic ingredients from turmeric found in spicy curry.First assumption, the extract is potential to destroy cancer cells.

The extract works in the first 24 hours since it is consumed. The chemical inside – curcumin – has been long known as energy recovery and has been tested as prescription for arthritics and dementia.

Although it is still in laboratory scale, the test showed the capability of curcumin to destroy throat cancer cells. A number of scientists are optimist that the result which is published on British Journal of Cancer, can help the doctors to find the alternate cure.

A member of the researcher team, Dr. Sharon McKenna admitted that the scientists has been long knowing the potency of natural ingredients, such as curcumin, to cure abnormal cells.

The doctors in UK hope there is a more progressive invention to cure throat cancer. Every year there are 7,800 people has been diagnosed with throat cancer in UK.

Throat cancer is one the six deadly cancers or causes 5% of death rate in UK. From the nature resources aspect, Indonesia is a country with a lot of herbal resources as medicinal potential.”

Do just once what others say you can’t do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again.

I know that many drugs that can relieve your cold symptoms and even your body can recover itself from (ordinary) flu, but do you know that actually we have all the cure from nature? Well, sometimes if I am lazy to buy and prepare all the ingredients, I just take some pills that work as analgesic, antipyretic, decongestant and antihistamine. But I aware that I have taken too much chemical drugs after all, then I start to prepare one of these beverages:
Ginger and lime tea
Instead made from tea leafes, this “tea” is just a blend of ginger root and the extract of lime fruit. It’s easy to prepare; pour a piece of ginger into one cup of boiling water, add the lime extract and sugar for sweet taste. You can roast the ginger to get the warmer effect. Usually 15 minutes after you take it, you will feel warm inside your body and your soar throat is slowly reduced. Ginger or zingiber officinale is known for analgesic, sedative, antipyretic and antibacterial effect.

As we all know lime (citrus aurantifolia) has strong sour taste, but this makes this tiny fruit rich of Vitamin C. In Indonesia, lime extract is usually taken with a spoon of soy bean ketchup to cure cough. I don’t know what the scientific reason behind this recipe, but it works for me.
Cardamom tea
Take the seeds from 5 – 7 cardamom (amomum cardamomum) fruits and boiling them in water about 15 minutes. Drink the water with honey or sugar and you can also add a little of tea leafes if you don’t like the plain taste. In fact the taste is not that plain; it has peppermint-like aroma. Usually after you take it, you will feel relief in your nose and throat.
Peppermint tea
This is just ordinary tea mixed with a few drop of peppermint oil. But this drink is very powerful to relieve inhalation problem. I take a Chinese brand peppermint oil, but I think it doesn’t matter what brand it is, as long as it contains of pure peppermint oil. 3 drops in a cup of hot tea will suddenly take effect for me.

forgive as soon as possible

love without boundaries

laugh without control

and never stop smiling
even if you don’t know the reason

After being diagnosed with endometrium cyste, I have to get myself used to intense pain, especially around my period time. I have given up to modern medicine. Usually synthetic hormone and some kind of contraception pills are quite expensive for me, besides, I don’t like their side effects for my body either.
Then one day a friend of mine told me about turmeric (Curcumae longae rhizoma), that yellow-fragrant-spice. She told me to take the extract of turmeric and mix it with a little salt and about one teaspoon of honey.
Usually after taking a glass of turmeric juice, my stomach cramp is disappear and even I can sleep well until the morning comes.
But how can turmeric be such a great ingredients? Two years ago I found an interesting article about turmeric , which in written by Kim Patra for Bali Advertiser. But remember, I don’t recommend this for your medical treatment before you consult with your doctor.

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet.
He held up a sign which said: “I am blind, please help.”
There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by.
He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat.
He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words.
He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up.
A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy.
That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were.
The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning?
What did you write?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.”
What he had written was: “Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.”

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind.
But the first sign simply said the boy was blind.
The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind.
Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Have you ever read The Law of The Garbage Trucks written by David J. Pollay?

I quote it here:

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change
your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt
boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless
you’re the Terminator, for an instant you’re probably set
back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful
person is how quickly one can get back their focus on
what’s important.

Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. I learned it in
the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here’s what
happened.

I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central
Station. We were driving in the right lane when, all
of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking
space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on
his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car’s back
end by just inches!

The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused
a big accident, whipped his head around and he started
yelling bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and
waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I
said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined
your car and sent us to the hospital!”

And this is when my taxi driver told me what I
now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck.”

“Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around
full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of
disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a
place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you.

When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it
personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and
move on. You’ll be happy you did.”

So this was it: The “Law of the Garbage Truck.”

I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run
right over me? And how often do I take their garbage
and spread it to other people: at work, at home, on the
streets? It was that day I said, “I’m not going to do it
anymore.”

I began to see garbage trucks. Like in the movie “The
Sixth Sense,” the little boy said, “I see Dead People.”

Well, now “I see Garbage Trucks.” I see the load they’re
carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my
Taxi Driver, I don’t make it a personal thing; I just
smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

One of my favorite football players of all time, Walter
Payton, did this every day on the football field. He would
jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being
tackled. He never dwelled on a hit. Payton was ready
to make the next play his best. Good leaders know
they have to be ready for their next meeting.

Good parents know that they have to welcome their
children home from school with hugs and kisses.
Leaders and parents know that they have to be fully
present, and at their best for the people they care
about.

The bottom line is that successful people do not
let Garbage Trucks take over their day.

What about you?
What would happen in your life, starting today,
if you let more garbage trucks pass you by?

Here’s my bet. You’ll be happier.

Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with
regrets, so..
Love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don’t.
Believe that everything happens for a reason.
If you get a chance , TAKE IT!
If it changes your life , LET IT!
Nobody said it would be easy
They just promised it would be worth it!

The Paradox

Today we have bigger houses yet smaller families
More convenience, but less time
We have more degrees, but less common sense
More knowledge, but less judgement
We have more experts, but more problems
More medicine, but less good health
We spend too recklessly
Laugh too little
Drive too fast
Get too angry too quickly
Stay up too late
Read too little
Watch TV too much
And are less considerate
We have multiplied our possessions, but have reduced our values

We talk too much, love too little and lie too often
We have learned how to make a living, but not a life
We have added years to life, but not life to years
We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers
Wider roads, but narrower viewpoints

We spend more, but have less
We buy more, yet enjoy it less

We have been all the way to the moon and back But have trouble crossing the road to meet our neighbours.

We’ve conquered our outer space, But not  our inner space
We’ve split the atom
But not our prejudice
We write more, learn less, plan more, but accomplish less
we have learned to rush, but not to wait,
we have higher incomes , but lower morals
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies
But have less personal communication

We are long on quantity,
But less in quality

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion
Tall men and short character
More leisure but less  fun – more kinds of food – but less nutrition
Two incomes – but more divorce
nicer houses – but broken homes

That is why I propose , that as of today , you do not keep anything for special occasions , because every day you live is a special occasion.
Search for knowledge, read more. sit and admire the view without paying attention to your needs.
Spend more time with your family and friends , eat your favorite food and visit the places you love.
Life is moments of enjoyment and not just about surviving.

Drink from the finest crystal glass. do not save your best perfume or aftershave  but use it every day.
Remove phrases like “ one of these days “ ,“ someday”  and “not now” from your vocabulary
write that letter you thought of writing “ one of these days “

Let’s tell our families and friends how much we love them.
Do not delay anything that adds laughter and joy to your life .

Every day , every hour ,  and every minute is special.
As you do not know if they will be your last .
